How exactly are words counted?

The text is trimmed and split on any whitespace sequence (spaces, tabs, newlines) using a regex. Empty segments are filtered out, so multiple consecutive spaces count as one separator — matching the behaviour of Microsoft Word and Google Docs.

What is the difference between 'Characters' and 'No Spaces'?

'Characters' is the raw length of the string including every space and newline. 'No Spaces' strips all whitespace characters first, giving you the count of printable characters only — useful for SMS or Twitter character limits.

How is reading time calculated?

Reading time uses 200 words per minute, a widely cited average for adult silent reading. The result is always rounded up to the nearest whole minute, so a 210-word text shows 2 min, not 1 min.

Is there a maximum text length?

There is no enforced limit. The tool handles large pastes — entire book chapters or long reports — without issue, though very large inputs (100,000+ words) may cause a brief lag on older devices.

Is my text stored or sent to a server?

No. All counting happens in your browser using JavaScript. Your text never leaves your device and is not logged anywhere.
