Why does the converter fill transparent areas with white?

JPEG does not support an alpha (transparency) channel. Before encoding, the Canvas is filled with solid white so transparent WebP pixels become white rather than rendering as black or corrupted in the output.

What quality setting should I use?

92 (the default) gives near-lossless quality. For web use where file size matters, 75–85 is a good balance. Below 70 you may see JPEG blocking artefacts on sharp edges.

Will the output JPG be larger than the WebP?

Usually yes. WebP achieves better compression than JPEG at the same visual quality. Converting to JPG trades file size for compatibility.

Is my image uploaded to a server?

No. The Canvas API runs entirely in your browser. Your WebP file never leaves your device.
